“Nothing better than food, friends, and football—except all of the above with Jesus!” This is how Rich Sassor, Pastor of Men’s Ministry at Big Valley Grace, describes the upcoming BVG Men’s Tailgate Party.
On Thursday, August 20, beginning at 7:00pm, the Big Valley Grace Community Church back parking lot will be transformed with hundreds of men grilling and getting ready for the big event. After the food, games and worship, former NFL and USFL player, Rich Garza, will take the stage.
As an offensive lineman, Garza played with the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL, and the Philadelphia Stars and San Antonio Gunslingers of the USFL.
“As far back as I can remember, my goal in life was to be a pro athlete,” Garza said. “I thought being a pro would make me happy and fill up what was missing in my life, but I found out that money and glory really don’t satisfy. I looked happy on the outside, but inside I was the same Rich Garza. I knew then that something spiritual was missing from my life because I had tried everything else and nothing else worked. Since I asked the Lord into my life, He has filled up that empty place and helped me to change on the inside, where it counts the most.”
Over the past 27 years, Garza has been a motivational speaker delivering his messages to millions of people in schools, churches, auditoriums and even penitentiaries around the world. He currently works as co-chaplain with the San Antonio Spurs. Garza’s book Available is the story of the big changes that took place in Rich Garza’s
life, and how his abilities, or lack thereof, didn’t have the final word in who he was to become.
Rich Garza’s inspirational message of transformation combined with fun of a traditional tailgate party makes this the perfect event for the churched and unchurched. And, since the whole evening is free, you are encouraged to bring all the guys you know—young or old. Just make sure you bring enough food to feed them all as well!
