Challenge – The Three Gifts

Begin a new family tradition this year!  Instead of purchasing gifts for your friends and family without a plan, spend wisely with purpose! What if you only bought three gifts for your loved ones this Christmas?

A gift of Gold

A gift of Frankincense

A gift of Myrrh

Matthew 2:10-11 reads:

When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Why a gift of gold?

Gold represents the fact that Jesus is a king.  (He is royalty.)

On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

KING OF KING AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 19:16

Why a gift of frankincense?

Frankincense represents the fact that Jesus is pure.  (He is deity.)

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us…”

2 Corinthians 5:21

Why a gift of myrrh?

Myrrh represents the fact that Jesus would die.  (Myrrh was used to embalm the body.)

Jesus said “It is finished.”  With that, He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

John 19:30

The Gold Gift is the expensive gift.  Tell your loved ones that they are valuable to God, so valuable that He died for them!  In God’s eyes, they are royalty.  They were made in the very image of God. They’re children of the King!  Wrap this gift in gold colored wrapping paper.

The Frankincense Gift is the spiritual gift.  It reminds us that God wants us to be pure.  He wants us to walk in a way that pleases Him. Remind your loved ones that it is important to grow closer to God and to become more like His Son, Jesus. This gift could be: a Bible, a spiritual book, a journal, a daily devotional, a CD of Christian music, etc.  Wrap this gift in light colors.

The Myrrh Gift is a physical gift. It represents something for the body, just as myrrh was used to embalm the body of Jesus. The Myrrh gift remind us that Jesus came in physical form. This gift could be: perfume, cologne, lotion, a gift card for a massage, shampoo, bedding, a new outfit, etc.  Wrap this gift in earth tones.
