Week 1 — Tuesday: Praying The Will Of God
Matthew 6:10; Romans 12:1-2
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done,on earth as it is in heaven.”
This is an example of a pattern for prayer, not merely a model for rote recitation.
The prayer, “Your will be done,” is all about GOD’S will, not about our own self-centered needs and desires. This prototype for prayer calls us to recalibrate to the Father’s will at the expense of our own.
Paul is clear in Romans 12:1-2 “…present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
We are called to surrender our hopes and dreams to the Father’s perfect will.
Jesus said, “Nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42) “…on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10).
The Father’s will is always and completely carried out in heaven. Here on earth, it is not. We are called to actively live out His will in our lives in the good times as well as the hard times.
How do we know what the Father’s will is? By reading God’s Word, studying His Word, and living our lives according to His Word.
The greatest commandment is a great place to start: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your all mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
Until we sacrifice our will to God’s perfect will, we are at odds with the Lord’s Prayer.

September 5, 2023 at 8:10 amThis was excellent! All too often we just pray our laundry list of wants instead of trading our desires for His desires, and our will for His will. Thank you front this reminder!
