Week 2 — Monday: Hallowed Be Thy Name

Matthew 6:9

Of the sixty-five words in the Lord’s prayer, these four words are the least understood. Let us take a deep dive together and see something incredibly special in these words.

Hollowed means: “Holy be Your name.” Something uniquely treasured and respected.

Thy Name means: YAHWEH. This is all who God is in character and reputation. God has one personal name: YHWH. (Exodus 3:14) Four consonants: Yod, Heh, Waw, Hey.

There are 950 names of the Lord in the Bible! For example: Abba, Adonai, Advocate, Alpha, Almighty, Ancient of days, etc.

There is to be deep reverence when we say, “Hallowed be Thy name.” We are trusting in the love, character, and the reputation of God.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the NAME of the LORD our GOD!” (Psalm 20:7)

Is there an application for us today? Absolutely! To HALLOW GOD’S NAME is to BEAR GOD’S NAME. Notice this commandment in Exodus 20:7, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”

Meaning? You must not BEAR or CARRY the name of Yahweh your God in vain.

How did Coca Cola become the most recognized name in the world? In 1993 Coca Cola hired the best actors and athletes to “bear the name” Coca Cola everywhere in public. It worked! Today 1.9 billion Coca Colas will be sold because someone is “bearing” their name.

As believers today we are to be “Name Bearers.”

Thank you. The biblical history brings more light to what we’ve learned from Him and who we are.
