Week 8 — Wednesday: Don’t Ever Give Up!

Matthew 6:6; Luke 18:1; Psalm 54:2

“I pray that God forgives them…” Corrie Ten Boom stood naked with her older sister Betsie, watching a concentration camp matron beating a prisoner. “Oh, the poor woman,” Corrie cried. “Yes. May God forgive her,” Betsie replied. And, once again, Corrie realized that it was for the souls of the brutal Nazi guards that her sister prayed. Both women had been sent to the campfor helping the Jews. Christ’s Spirit and words were their guide;it was His persecuted people they tried to save—at the risk of their own lives; it was His strength thatsustained them through times of profound horror.
—Corrie ten Boom (The Hiding Place

In my own prayer life, I have been praying for the salvation of a woman for over 20 years. I even invited her to church, and she came to church with me—once. I’ve continued to pray for her and pray that it is God’s will to save her. Our lives have changed, so I don’t see her anymore, but that does not mean I should stop praying for her. As long as the Holy Spirit convicts me to pray for her I will.

We are called to give everything to God. Everything! Betsie ten Boom even prayed for her captors in World War II! She never lived to see her prayer answered, but her prayer impacted her sister, Corrie. I may never hear of the salvation of the woman I’m praying for, but I am not going to give up. Persevere in your prayers; don’t give up; God hears them all. He will answer in His time. He may answer you in Heaven but don’t give up.
