Week 4 — Monday: Trusting The Good Father To Provide

Luke 11:9-13

As we pray, knowing that our God is a good Father is vital! A good father is trustworthy, provides for his family, sets boundaries, gives guidance, listens to his kids, and loves to bring them joy. Our God is all of these things—and more, of course! He just wants us to talk to Him, and He wants to listen.

I remember a day with my daughter—I was prepared to give her something, if only she would ask. There was something about wanting her to act in humility, not entitlement. As I waited for her to make the request, God reminded me of Luke 11. Sometimes, all we need to do is humble our hearts and admit our need, and our good, loving Father is READY to meet the need, fulfill the request, and provide what we desire. But the most important thing isn’t the “thing”, it is our hearts. “Ask and it will be given to you,” (Luke 11:9) but we still have to trust God enough, and have the humility in our heart, to DO the asking. Do we trust Him to provide when we ask? Or are we lacking trust, and thus too afraid to even ask? He will always work all things for good for those who love Him; He will always provide exactly what is best for us.

She never did make the request. She didn’t ask. And as a result, she did not receive. What a lesson to me, as I look to my good, heavenly Father. He is at the ready, waiting for me to pray, to communicate with Him, and humbly make the request that He already knows I need. As we pray, we ask You, God, to refine our hearts to holiness and create in us good desires. Help us to trust You, to trust Your faithfulness, and Your desire for us to grow in character and strength.
