Week 10 — Friday: Hallelujah!

Matthew 6:33; 7:7-11; Deuteronomy 8:2-3

How high on my “priority list” is prayer in my life? How high should it be?

One of the many things I am grateful for about hymns is that so many of them have helped me to commit Scripture to memory. The hymn, “Seek Ye First,” helps to clarify the question of what the priority of prayer should be in our lives.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God, And His righteousness;
And all these things shall be added unto you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Matthew 6:33 says that we are to seek God first. That not only indicates that we are to begin our days in prayer, but also that prayer should be the first place we start in all the parts of our days and lives (not just when we need something or are in some sort of crisis).

Ask, and it shall be given unto you; Seek, and you shall find.
Knock, and it shall be opened to you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Matthew 7 is an invitation from Jesus Himself to come to our Heavenly Father in prayer. Jesus invites us to ask, seek, and knock. In other words, we are to be in a constant conversation with God—bringing our adoration, thanksgiving, confession, and requests to Him.

Man shall not live by bread alone, But by every word
That proceeds out from the mouth of God.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Deuteronomy 8:3 reminds us that, just like we need food to survive (and thrive) physically, we need to hear from God to survive (and thrive) spiritually. And the best way we can do that is to regularly be in prayer with Him and be reading/listening to His Word (the Bible).

Hallelu, Hallelujah!
